We're still at #1 http://cdbaby.com/cd/jude4 , but no reviews... strange, so many of you have written me here or on Myspace... After the "Sarah" recordings came out, you guys made it a top seller, which led it to France, which led me back over there, which eventually led to "Crescent Heights Shuffle" being used in a Miller Ad. With "Cuba" I'm hoping that , years from now, a newly free Cuba will license and re-record the chorus of the title track for its tourism commercials. Would be nice, right? I might even donate it, depending on how free they really are :)

Today I'm taking delivery of a "portable" air conditioner in order to make the one-room studio I'm trying to record in bearable. It's expensive, so if it works I'll recommend it, and if it doesn't I'll tell you ALL about it. What else... Got to get a piano working in here, as I've found that going back and forth between the keys and the guitar is really the way I write best. Oh, and I SWEAR that I'm booking shows late in the Fall. It's hard because of my hands, so I'll probably only do 2 or 3 shows at a time, and we're looking for schools to play to subsidize the air travel, so you never know if I'll see you in a big city or a college town...

An absolute titan of the arts and the human spirit, Solzhenitsyen was one of the most important intellectuals of the twentieth century. I remember reading his "A Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich" in 8th grade and trying to deal with the fact that man could treat his fellow man so cruelly. His "Gulag Archipelego" changed perceptions in the West, and he lived to see the same Soviet state which had imprisoned him and so many others fall under its own weight. The most amazing thing is that his work, witnessing for the world's eyes the horrors under Stalin, was published in the Soviet Union under Kruschev! Because it was just SO GREAT! How beautiful is that? Talk about not just one artist, but one work of art changing the world...... http://www.boston.com/news/world/europe/articles/2008/08/03/alexander_solzhenitsyn_dies_at_89/

As some of you know, I'm about to start scoring a film. It's very exciting, as we're using songs as some of the cues, but it's going to keep me busy for the next 4-6 weeks. In addition, I'm hoping to begin this election-ish blog/Vlog/fun song thing with Jill Sobule. Why should JibJab have all the fun? THAT is going to add to the workload as well, as I'll have to pretend to be smart, and maybe even get myself all cleaned up to go on camera. (What if I just make every song to the tune of those annoying Free-Credit-Report-Dot-Com ads? No, don't worry. )

I'm trying to book some shows for the fall, and it's tough to get the dates now, as we're already a little late. All just to say that with everything going on, including the good folks at Naive records being very busy with Carla Bruni, I don't imagine a huge, new set of "new" Jude recordings until the new year. So. Here's what I'm thinking: in another month or so I'll finally put out a live CD. Just because I'm lazy, and there's NO WAY I'm going to sit own and listen to show after show of myself, I'm going to master and press that old show in Baton Rouge that people seem to have traded over the years. Why argue with sucess, right? We'll probably add a song or two (or three) to make it more worth buying, and I'll take out the part where I ask for everyone to sing along to my Nirvana cover and then the board recording makes it sound like no one is singing...

THEN I'm going to put out even more demos, but these will be from The Bomb Factory, the marvelous place I ran to when I was down and made the Sarah recording. I have to go back and listen, but we all recall them as pretty beautiful, even if some of them were incomplete. I just figure that after all this time of trying to make everything perfect and then never getting it there anyway, I might as well get as much music out into the world as possible. Especially if some of you are going to have to cover your ears when I sing about getting drunk and voting for McCain - doh!

Just kidding, my friends. Keeping this sight free of politics is something you can count on me doing. There might be a link here or there, but I've always been about the songs - much to the detriment of my career at times - and, at least at this sight, I always will be.

Oh, and THANK YOU all for the comments and compliments that keep coming in about "Cuba". You must have all downloaded it to get it so quickly! The cool thing is that all the traffic has actually put "Redemption" back in the map, which is nice, since I ordered a WAREHOUSE full of it right before watching most sales go digital! Someday soon I'll put down all the lyrics from Cuba here on the site...there are a couple of mistakes that I obviously have to alert everyone to so that my fixations can become yours and we can all live together in a kind of forgiven obsessive-compulsive relationship. Wait. That actually sounds a little terrifying. Oh well, kisses and hugs to you all - speak soon!

Jude,

hey man, can't wait to hear the new CD. When will you be playing LA?
i signed up for this list years ago and never get any emails. Would
love to see you live. What's up with Death cab for Cutie, I feel like
they ripped off YOUR sound!

anyway, keep up the good work

- F

JUDE!!!
Glad to hear about the new cd. Will go pick it up right away. Any Los Angeles shows coming up?
Would love to get out and see ya again.
- M

I am from the Uk and just bought Cuba to add to the rest of your Albums I own. Love the tunes matey anyhoo to the point the T-shirt link doesn't work here or on your My-space site. I would love to proudly wear a T-Shirt of yours especially as I will sport it down your way on my holiday this year, I am in LA for a couple of days in September!

Any ideas how I might get my grubby paws on one, I am of course prepared to part with the Reddies (greenies or greenbacks in your case).

Kind Regards and keep the music coming.

S

Hi Jude ! I am another big fan of you !! Actually, i am even in love
with your voice, your music and, of course, with YOU !!! When are you
coming back to FRANCE ?? !!

A big big fan from Paris

Cuba AND Jude! Two of my favourites – how can I not buy 10 of these cd’s!? Thanks for the note to us all ...

See you in Cuba!

- P

Three songs into Cuba and it's like I'm discovering your music all over again - R

Hey Jude,

I'm so happy you've finally released your new CD! Unfortunately I can't find it here
in Germany in any record stores and I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed. I
got to know your music when you released Redemption, I somehow stumbled upon it and
it really touched my soul. You know it made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me feel
free...it's really hard to explain the feeling you get when listening to the music
you adore, but I guess you'll get the point. Honestly there aren't many records I
listen as often as to your Redemption. (Except John Frusciante, you know his
music?). As I don't wanna waste your time;-), I get to the bottom of my mail: Do you
release your record in Germany? Have you any plans for going on tour? I would love
to see you playing guitar.....

Sorry for any grammar mistakes and many thanks for your music.

Best wishes! -
J
